SALA3D is a Support Action (SA) funded under Call ICT-2009.1.5 – Networked Media and 3D Internet of the 7th Research Framework Programme, aiming to reinforce the Science and Technology dialogue between Colombia, Uruguay and Europe in the specific fields of Content Aware Networks, Network Aware Applications and 3D Media Internet.

From previous actions conducted over the last years by different projects (SALA+, SOLAR-ICT, WINDS-LA) and the ALIS programme, a strong interest from Colombia and Uruguay has emerged to further cooperate with Europe in these technology fields.

SALA3D will take on this endeavour to perform a more detailed analysis on selected themes and priorities. Workshops, networking and round-table discussions will be set up, involving key stakeholders from the target countries with a view to identifying key priorities bearing highest potential for cooperative ICT research.



The ultimate goal of SALA3D is to develop specific roadmaps for Colombia and Uruguay, with the goal of influencing the Colombian and Uruguayan R&D Programmes so as to identify key research themes equally strategic for European researchers. Similarly, SALA3D will help European researchers identify key research priorities from Colombia and Uruguay, which are of mutual interest.

As a result of this commitment, excellent organisations from Uruguay and Colombia (including industries and SME’s, Universities and Research centres) are expected to jointly work with peer entities from Europe in order to submit project proposals within next ICT calls of the European programmes.

The impact of certain networked media technologies or the uptake of others may vary according to socio-economic factors. Consequently, the SALA3D approach also includes a comprehensive study of the socio-economic issues in Colombia or in Uruguay, in order to bring the research priorities’ roadmap closer to the specific national contexts and to stimulate economic development and activities related to the research areas under investigation.
